Synder connects Toast POS to Xero and records every restaurant day in your books. Sales, tips, processing fees, refunds, and sales tax each get their own line and add up to the Toast payout, so your Xero general ledger is easy to check against Toast's Z report.
Secure connection through the Toast API – Synder can't change your orders, menus, or payments.
Synder serves 5,000+ businesses and 200+ accounting firms
Create a Client ID and Client Secret in Toast Web, load your locations, and pick one. The same credentials connect your whole restaurant group.
Choose Xero accounts for sales, tips, sales tax, processing fees, and payouts, then set Smart Rules once to tag sales with tracking categories.
Synder posts Toast sales to a clearing account and moves each net payout to your bank, so the deposit in your Xero bank feed already has its match.
What data Synder syncs from Toast to Xero
–Each item keeps its Toast sales category
–On their own lines, apart from food and drink sales
–Split out of each deposit and recorded as an expense
–Posted to your sales tax liability account
–Discounts recorded, voided checks reversed
–Cash, card, gift card, and other tenders kept apart
–Synced as they happen, so your revenue stays accurate
Synder records every Toast check in Xero automatically, with items, sales categories, payment types, tips, and discounts attached. Each business day syncs after it closes, so Xero agrees with Toast's sales reports and nobody on your team types in end-of-day totals. When a check is edited in Toast, Synder updates the record, and a voided check is reversed.
Pick the level of detail that suits your restaurant: Per Transaction Sync records each check as its own invoice and payment in Xero, while Summary Sync posts one daily journal entry per location.
Every Toast payout reaches your bank as one net number, already reduced by processing fees, refunds, and withholdings such as Toast Capital repayments. Synder takes that number apart in Xero: sales with their sales tax, tips and gratuity on separate lines, processing fees in the fee expense account you choose, and refunds and withholdings recorded on their own. If part of a deposit has no explanation in Toast's data, Synder records it as a deposit adjustment, so the payout total still matches.
Synder reads Toast's payout data by settled date, records the sales in a Toast clearing account, and moves each net payout from there to your bank account in Xero as a bank transfer. Chargebacks travel the same route, so the clearing account comes back to zero after every payout.
With Synder, sales, fees, and refunds pass through the clearing account first, so the recorded transfer equals the amount your bank received, and Xero's auto-matching suggests it when the deposit appears in your bank feed. You can also turn on auto-reconcile for the sales and fees inside the clearing account, leaving only the payouts to confirm.
Balance Reconciliation confirms that your Toast clearing account balance in Xero matches the balance in Toast. Transaction Reconciliation compares each transaction with its record in Xero and flags anything that doesn't tie, so you review only those lines.
Synder records sales tax on each check using the tax Toast charged, so prepared food, alcohol, and other items taxed differently keep their rate. The tax goes to your sales tax liability account in Xero. Tips and gratuity arrive on their own lines, so what guests left for your staff never blends into food and drink sales.
Synder reads your Toast setup, including sales categories, tax rates, discounts, and service charges, so every line in Xero carries names your team already knows. Each item arrives with its sales category, that’s why your Xero sales follow the way your menu is organized. In Per Transaction mode, Smart Rules can also tag sales with Xero tracking categories, such as location or revenue stream.
Gift card sales and reloads go to a gift card liability account, and service charges, gratuity included, get lines of their own.
Synder imports past sales into Xero for any date range you pick and records them the same way as new ones. That makes it easy to clear a bookkeeping backlog or bring earlier months into Xero, and restaurants that just switched to Toast can go back to their first day on it.

"We’re saving real time with Synder. Instead of 3 or 4 hours, I now dedicate around 30–45 minutes to the task of reconciling transactions and making sure everything is perfect in our books. That’s over 70 hours saved each month, which I can now dedicate to more strategic parts of my role. The team is thrilled with the time savings and the clarity Synder provides."

"You have no idea how much easier Synder has made our lives. Before, we had a whole bunch of spreadsheets running with macros built in just to get the data formatted correctly before we could even import it into QuickBooks. Synder eliminated all of that. The orders come out of Shopify, pass through Synder, and land in QuickBooks clean, every time. I'd say it's saved us at least 3 hours a day. We are huge fans."

Toast integrates with Xero through Synder Sync, which brings Toast sales, sales tax, tips and gratuity, discounts, processing fees, refunds, voids, and payouts into your Xero chart of accounts. You choose Per Transaction Sync for check-level detail or Summary Sync for a daily sales summary, and the Toast connection stays read-only.
Connecting Toast POS to Xero with Synder doesn't need a developer. Create read-only API credentials in Toast Web, connect your Xero organization to Synder, then enter the Client ID and Client Secret and choose a location. Each extra location connects with the same credentials, and the Toast connection guide shows every screen.
Synder syncs historical Toast POS transaction data into Xero for any date range you choose and records it the same way as new sales, so you can backfill earlier months or clear a backlog.
Restaurants can move to Synder from another connector or from manual CSV exports, and historical Toast data can be imported during setup to fill in earlier months. With Synder, you get check-level detail as well as daily summaries, tips and fees on separate lines, 30+ platforms beyond Toast, and tools for accounting firms that manage several restaurant clients.
Synder breaks each Toast payout into sales, tips and gratuity, processing fees, refunds, and withholdings such as Toast Capital repayments, and records each part in the Xero account you assign. Tips stay out of revenue, and the net amount moves to your bank account in Xero as one transfer.
Mapping Toast sales categories, tips, and taxes to Xero is a one-time setup in Synder: line-item mapping sends each type of line to the Xero account you pick, and every future sync follows it. Items keep their Toast sales category, sales tax goes to your sales tax liability account, and gift card sales go to a gift card liability. Smart Rules add tracking categories on top when you need them.
Synder records sales tax on each Toast check using the tax Toast charged, so prepared food, packaged goods, alcohol, and non-taxable items each keep their rate. All of it goes to your sales tax liability account in Xero.
Synder records Toast card sales in a Toast clearing account in Xero, then moves each net deposit from that account to your bank account as a bank transfer on its settled date. Fees, refunds, and withholdings are recorded against the same deposit, and anything Toast leaves unexplained, such as a chargeback, goes to a deposit adjustment, so the clearing account returns to zero.
Toast sales and bank deposits differ because each deposit is a net figure: card sales and tips, minus processing fees, refunds, chargebacks, and withholdings. Synder records each of those parts in Xero and books the transfer for exactly the amount your bank received, so the deposit in your Xero bank feed has a ready match you confirm with one click in Xero bank reconciliation.
Synder supports multiple Toast locations in one Xero organization. Each location connects with the same Client ID and Client Secret. Xero tracking categories, applied through Smart Rules or summary mapping, label each location's sales, so you can run Profit and Loss reports per location or one consolidated Profit and Loss for the whole group.
