Your Synder plan includes a set number of syncs per billing cycle. How those syncs are counted, and whether you can get them back, depends on which sync mode you use. This guide covers the basics that apply to both modes, then each mode in turn, and how to get an exact usage check if your numbers look off.
At a glance
- A sync is used each time a transaction is recorded in your accounting software.
- Per Transaction and Summary Sync both count by the number of transactions — a summary is not one sync.
- Summary Sync rollbacks return the credits; Per Transaction rollbacks do not.
- Syncs do not roll over — unused balance is lost when your billing cycle resets. Extra syncs can be purchased any time.
The basics (both modes)
- A sync is consumed when a transaction is recorded in your accounting software. Importing transactions into Synder does not use a sync — only syncing them to your books does.
- Your sync allowance resets at the start of each billing cycle. Unused syncs do not carry over — they are lost at the reset, so it is worth using your balance before the cycle ends.
- Any additional syncs you purchase are added to your balance immediately.
Per Transaction mode
How syncs are counted
Each transaction you sync to your accounting software uses one sync.
Rollbacks do not return credits
Once a transaction is synced, that sync is spent — even if you roll it back afterwards. Re-syncing the same transaction uses another sync. So in Per Transaction, undoing a mistake cleans up your books but does not give the credits back.
Common ways to waste syncs in Per Transaction
- Not using your syncs before the rebalancing date. Leftover syncs do not roll over — anything unused disappears when your billing cycle resets.
- Double-syncing without duplicate protection. If Skip synchronization of duplicated transactions is off, the same transaction can sync twice and create a duplicate — using a sync for nothing.
- Importing a date range you have already accounted for manually. This re-imports and re-syncs transactions you already handled, spending syncs on data you did not need.
- Re-syncing when you do not need to. Because rollbacks do not refund, re-syncing the same transactions charges you again.
Summary Sync mode
How syncs are counted
A summary is charged by the number of chargeable transactions it contains — not as a single sync. For example, a summary built from 200 transactions uses 200 syncs, exactly as Per Transaction would count them.
Rollbacks return credits
This is the key difference from Per Transaction: if you roll back a summary, the syncs it used are returned to your balance and its journal entry is removed. That makes Summary Sync mistakes safe to undo — but the returned credits still expire at your next billing reset, so use them before then.
Common ways to waste syncs in Summary Sync
- Creating a manual summary for a period Synder already synced automatically. Duplicate prevention works on an individual-entity basis, so it does not catch this. If 1-10 October already synced as automatic summaries and you then create a manual summary for the same period, that manual summary also syncs — double-counting your books and spending syncs for nothing.
- Not reusing the credits a rollback returned. The syncs come back to your balance, but any unused balance disappears on your next rebalancing (billing reset) date — put them to use before then.
How to check your usage or dispute a charge
Synder keeps a complete record of every sync and what it was used for. You cannot open that detailed log yourself, so if your usage looks higher than expected — or you think you were charged twice for the same data — contact the Synder support team and ask for a sync balance review. The team can show exactly what consumed each sync, confirm whether anything was double-counted, and tell you whether a rollback will return credits.
