This guide explains how to connect a second Shopify store to an existing Synder account. Depending on your Shopify account setup, you may encounter different situations during this process. Below, we cover three common cases and provide step-by-step instructions for each.

Use this guide if:

  • You already have one Shopify store connected to Synder and need to add a second one
  • You are getting an error when trying to connect your second Shopify store
  • You have multiple Shopify stores under one or more admin accounts

Case 1: One admin account with two Shopify stores

This is the simplest scenario. You have a single Shopify admin account, and both of your stores are linked under it.

What happens: When you go through the standard connection flow in Synder (My account → Add integration → Shopify → Connect), the second store will connect successfully without any issues.

No special steps are required in this case — the connection works out of the box because Shopify recognizes both stores under your single admin login.

Case 2: Two different admin accounts with two different Shopify stores

In this case, you have two separate Shopify admin profiles, and each one is linked to a different store. You want to connect both stores to the same Synder organization.

Example: Admin account A is logged into Store 1 and is already connected to Synder. Admin account B has access to Store 2, which you now want to connect.

What happens: When you try to connect the second store, you will see an error. This happens because Shopify still has admin account A active in your browser, so it tries to connect Store 1 again instead of Store 2.

How to connect it properly

  1. From the error page, follow the link to return to the Shopify admin dashboard.
  2. Select the store that is already connected to Synder (Store 1).
  3. Log out of Shopify by clicking the profile icon in the top right corner and selecting Log out.
  1. Log back in to Shopify using the admin account that has access to the second store (Store 2).
  2. Go back to Synder and repeat the standard connection flow: My account → Add integration → Shopify → Connect.
  3. This time, you will be directed to the correct Shopify store under the correct admin account. The connection should complete successfully.

Case 3: One admin account with two stores (OAuth flow)

This case is similar to Case 1. You have one admin account with access to multiple Shopify stores. However, the connection issue here is related to how the OAuth authorization flow works.

How the OAuth flow works

When you click Connect in Synder, Shopify generates a special authorization URL. This URL contains the name of the store you are currently logged into. Synder then authorizes itself specifically for that store.

What can go wrong

After successfully connecting your first store, if you try to connect the second store by clicking Connect again, Shopify will redirect you to the same store you were already logged into, not the second one.

Important: If you try to switch stores using the Shopify dropdown menu while on the authorization page, the authorization token will be lost. This means:

  • The new store will not connect.
  • The previously connected store may lose its connection in Synder.

How to fix this

  1. First, make sure your first store is still connected to Synder (check this on the Organization settings page). If it has lost its connection, reconnect it before proceeding.
  1. Without clicking the Add integration button in Synder, go to Shopify directly and switch to your second store first.
  2. Make sure this is the only browser tab where Shopify is open, to avoid any conflicts.
  3. Now go to Synder and start the connection flow (Organization settings → Add integration → Shopify → Connect). Synder will redirect you to the Shopify store you are currently logged into (the second one), and the connection should complete successfully. Your first store will remain connected as well.

Note: The key difference from Case 1 is the order of operations. Do not click Connect in Synder before switching to the correct store in Shopify. Always switch stores in Shopify first, then start the connection flow in Synder.

FAQ

Why am I getting an error when trying to connect my second store?

This usually happens because Shopify is still logged into the admin account linked to your first store. Follow the steps in Case 2 or Case 3 above to resolve this.

Will connecting a second store affect my first store’s connection?

Not if you follow the steps correctly. However, in Case 3, if you switch stores using the Shopify dropdown while on the authorization page, the first store may lose its connection. Always switch stores in Shopify before starting the connection flow in Synder.

Do I need separate Synder organizations for each store?

No. You can connect multiple Shopify stores to the same Synder organization. You just need to be logged into the correct Shopify admin account and store before starting the connection flow.
