This article helps you connect Afterpay to Synder by entering your Merchant ID and Secret Key during Synder onboarding. It explains where to find these credentials and what to do if you can’t locate them. After completing these steps, Afterpay will show as Connected in Synder and will be ready for transaction import.

Before you start

Make sure the following statements are true:

  • You have an active Afterpay merchant account
  • Access to the email linked to your Afterpay account
  • You have started the onboarding process within Synder

How to get your Afterpay login details

To connect Afterpay to Synder, you need:

  • Merchant ID
  • Secret Key

Step 1: Get your Merchant ID

  1. Log in to your Afterpay merchant account.
  2. Open the Home page.
  3. Copy the Merchant ID from the footer below the Orders list.

Step 2: Get your Secret Key

The Secret Key is used to authorize the connection with Synder. Unlike the Merchant ID, this credential is not available inside the Afterpay dashboard. However, it’s always sent as an email when the Afterpay account is initially created.

  • Search your inbox for an email from Afterpay sent to the email linked to your merchant account.
  • Copy the Secret Key from that email.

If you can’t find your Secret Key in your inbox:

  • Contact your Afterpay Business Development Manager, or
  • Reach out to Afterpay Merchant Support and request your Secret Key

Important: Treat the Secret Key like a password. Do not share it publicly.

Step 3. Enter credentials in Synder

After you add the credentials to the correct fields on the Synder onboarding page, you will successfully establish the connection

To find your Business Development Manager in Afterpay and get your secret key, check your email for any communications from Afterpay, as your Business Development Manager may have already reached out. If you don’t find any relevant emails, contact Afterpay’s customer support via their official website or app, explaining your situation and asking for the contact information of your Business Development Manager. Additionally, log in to the Afterpay Merchant Portal and look for any notifications or messages that might contain these details. Networking with other merchants can also help, as they might have contact details for their Afterpay Business Development Manager. Finally, you can contact the Afterpay sales team directly through the “Contact Us” section on the Afterpay website, explaining that you need your secret key and haven’t been able to get in touch with your Business Development Manager.

Navigate to “Settings” or “Account Settings,” and find the “API Credentials” or “API Keys” section. Generate a new portal key if you don’t already have one, and copy it for secure storage.
