If you use <strong>Summary Sync<\/strong>, use the separate Summary Sync Transaction Reconciliation guide instead, because the comparison logic, timing, and fixing process are different: <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/transaction-reconciliation-for-summary-sync-validate-your-data-before-you-sync\/\">Transaction Reconciliation for Summary Sync<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Synder&#8217;s Transaction Reconciliation tool compares the data in your accounting software against the original records from your payment platform. As a result, it shows you exactly which transactions matched, which have amount differences, and which are missing. As a result, you can close out periods with confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Use this if:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You use <strong>Per Transaction Sync<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You need to finalize month-end close and want certainty that no transactions are missing or mismatched<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You use Stripe, PayPal, or Shopify with QuickBooks Online<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t use this if:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You use <strong>Summary Sync<\/strong> \u2014 use the separate <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/transaction-reconciliation-for-summary-sync-validate-your-data-before-you-sync\/\">Summary Sync Transaction Reconciliation guide<\/a> instead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You need help with bank reconciliation inside QuickBooks or Xero<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At least one payment platform (Stripe, PayPal, or Shopify) connected to Synder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An accounting platform (QuickBooks Online) connected to Synder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transactions already synced for the period you want to reconcile<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-confirm-it-worked-0f1d4e64-d642-4aac-9990-a15127172ca5\">How to confirm it worked<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your reconciliation is complete when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Discrepancy<\/strong> tab shows <strong>zero<\/strong> transactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Not Matched<\/strong> tab shows <strong>zero<\/strong> transactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The reconciliation status changes to <strong>&#8220;Reconciled&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If items remain, you can resolve them or use <strong>Bulk-Ignore<\/strong> for non-material differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"comparison-depends-on-your-sync-mode-of-synder-3b0f7b88-9395-4179-8a01-d99118f84a92\">Comparison depends on your Sync mode of Synder<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Per Transaction mode:<\/strong> Synder compares your <strong>clearing account report from QuickBooks Online<\/strong> against the payment platform report. This directly verifies that what is recorded in your books matches the original payment platform data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Summary mode:<\/strong> Synder compares the <strong>data imported into Synder<\/strong> against the payment platform report. This verifies that Synder received and processed all transactions correctly. If you use Summary Sync, follow the separate Summary guide instead of this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"supported-integrations-and-automation-levels-135763a9-ea82-4877-b7ab-40dd9b519713\">Supported integrations and automation levels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The level of automation depends on your payment platform. Specifically, there are three modes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Automated<\/strong> \u2014 Synder downloads files from both the payment platform and your accounting software automatically. No file uploads needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assisted<\/strong> \u2014 You upload a specific predefined report from the payment platform. You do not need to map anything manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-reconcile-stripe-transactions-automated-50b4a67b-88ad-49a8-a8ba-73e072d56b75\">How to reconcile Stripe transactions (Automated)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For Stripe, reconciliation is fully automated. Synder downloads both the Stripe data and your accounting file without any manual steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Transactions \u2192 Transaction Reconciliation<\/strong> in the left sidebar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If this is your first reconciliation, click <strong>&#8220;Start reconciling&#8221;<\/strong> on the welcome page. Otherwise, click <strong>&#8220;Add reconciliation&#8221;<\/strong> in the top-right corner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Next, set the <strong>date range<\/strong> for the period you want to reconcile. Note: you cannot select today&#8217;s date \u2014 the payment platform may not have finalized today&#8217;s transactions yet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Under <strong>Accounting<\/strong>, Synder pre-selects your connected accounting platform. It also pulls your clearing account details from QuickBooks Online. This process may take <strong>a few minutes to an hour<\/strong>, depending on transaction volume.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once processing is complete, you will see your results. See <strong>&#8220;Understanding your results&#8221;<\/strong> below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-reconcile-paypal-transactions-standard-37446f59-1f26-4f79-bed3-5b0841011f34\">How to reconcile PayPal transactions (Assisted)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>PayPal does not support automatic report downloads. You need to upload your PayPal report manually. After that, Synder handles everything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Transactions \u2192 Transaction Reconciliation<\/strong> in the left sidebar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>&#8220;Add reconciliation&#8221;<\/strong> (or &#8220;Start reconciling&#8221; if this is your first time).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set the <strong>date range<\/strong> for the period you want to reconcile.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>Accounting<\/strong>, set the Automation mode to <strong>&#8220;Automated&#8221;<\/strong> (Synder will pull this file automatically).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>Integration<\/strong>, select <strong>PayPal<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>clearing account<\/strong> used for PayPal transactions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set the Integration Automation mode to <strong>&#8220;Standard&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will see instructions for which report to download. Examples include Square, WooCommerce, and others. For these, use Manual mode. For example, you might sync missing transactions. In that case, use the <strong>&#8220;Refresh data&#8221;<\/strong> button. Specifically, it re-downloads only the accounting file without pulling data from the payment platform again. A &#8220;Reconciled&#8221; result does not confirm the data was correctly synced to your books. If Transaction Reconciliation shows &#8220;Reconciled&#8221; but you see discrepancies in your accounting software, check that your summaries are synced and your clearing account mapping is correct. If the issue persists, contact Synder support with the specific differences so we can investigate and guide you through the mapping.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reconciliation periods <strong>cannot overlap<\/strong> for the same clearing account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stripe automation may take <strong>up to an hour<\/strong> for large date ranges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Synder automatically excludes certain PayPal transaction types, such as Currency Conversion and Account Holds. This prevents false discrepancies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For Shopify, reconciliation covers the <strong>Shopify Payments clearing account only<\/strong> \u2014 not other payment gateways.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Synder matches based on <strong>IDs and amounts only<\/strong>. It does not compare transaction dates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong>multi-currency accounts<\/strong>, make sure the currency in your payment platform report matches your accounting records.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You <strong>cannot select today&#8217;s date<\/strong> for a reconciliation period.
