Synder does not provide a correction or recovery workflow for this scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is a detached invoice in Stripe<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Stripe allows you to detach a payment from one invoice and attach it to another after the original transaction. As a result:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A single payment associates with different invoices over time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The original invoice can revert to <strong>Open<\/strong> status in Stripe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stripe does not notify downstream systems that the historical invoice\u2013payment relationship has changed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Example scenario<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Invoice #1 is created in Stripe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payment #1 is applied to Invoice #1. Invoice #1 status becomes <strong>Paid<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payment #1 is detached from Invoice #1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payment #1 is attached to Invoice #2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invoice #1 status becomes <strong>Open<\/strong> in Stripe.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, Stripe has changed the invoice\u2013payment relationship, but Synder has already synced earlier data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Synder sync behaves<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sync Open Invoices: OFF<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Synder syncs Invoice #1 and Payment #1 through chronological auto-sync.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invoice #2 is not imported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invoice #1 remains closed in the accounting system, even if Stripe now shows it as <strong>Open<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Result:<\/strong> The accounting system reflects the original state, not the later reassignment that you see in Stripe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sync Open Invoices: ON<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Synder syncs Invoice #1 and Payment #1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invoice #2 is imported, but the payment is not synced to Invoice #2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invoice #1 remains closed in the accounting system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Result:<\/strong> Invoice #2 can appear unpaid with no payment attached. Invoice #1 stays paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Revenue Recognition (RevRec) impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Based on payment date (example: Sync Open Invoices OFF)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>RevRec recognizes Invoice #1 because it has a payment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RevRec does not recognize Invoice #2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Subscription results can appear <strong>Incomplete<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Based on invoice date (example: Sync Open Invoices ON)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>RevRec recognizes Invoice #1 regardless of payment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RevRec also recognizes Invoice #2 regardless of payment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> This can result in a subscription with an incomplete status<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key limitations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Synder does not resync or rewrite historical links when Stripe changes invoice\u2013payment relationships.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Detached payments in Stripe create accounting states that automation cannot mirror accurately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you detach a payment, you must adjust it manually in your accounting software.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This behavior is normal and not a sync error.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Next steps<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To maintain predictable accounting results, do not detach payments from invoices in Stripe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If invoice reassignment becomes necessary, review the accounting manually.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Share this article with your accounting team before making changes in Stripe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/contact\/\"><em>Reach out to Synder Team<\/em><\/a><strong> <\/strong>via online support chat or email with any questions you have \u2013 we are always happy to help you!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article explains how detached and reattached payments in Stripe affect invoice syncing, accounting records, and revenue recognition in Synder.
