While the case is open, PayPal investigates and decides whether the disputed amount stays with the <strong>seller<\/strong> or is returned to the <strong>buyer<\/strong>. This guide explains how that dispute flow appears in Synder and what to expect at each stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When to use this guide<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Use this guide if:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You use <strong>PayPal<\/strong> with Synder and want to understand how dispute transactions are handled.<\/li>\n<li>You want to know what happens while a dispute is still <strong>under review<\/strong>, and what gets synced once PayPal <strong>resolves<\/strong> it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Synder processes PayPal disputes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When a customer opens a PayPal dispute, Synder imports the dispute transaction with the status <strong>Pending<\/strong>. The accounting result depends on the outcome:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If the seller wins<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Synder creates <strong>two accounting entries<\/strong> for the dispute: an <strong>Expense<\/strong> and a <strong>Deposit<\/strong> for the same amount. The two entries <strong>offset each other<\/strong>, so the dispute has <strong>no net financial impact<\/strong> on the books. Synder imports the dispute in <strong>Pending<\/strong> status. No accounting entries are created at this stage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>May 12, 2026:<\/strong> PayPal resolves the dispute in the <strong>seller&#8217;s favor<\/strong>. Synder syncs the dispute as two final entries:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th><strong>Entry<\/strong><\/th><th><strong>Amount<\/strong><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Expense<\/td><td>$100.00<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Deposit<\/td><td>$100.00<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Expense<\/strong> records the $100.00 held by PayPal, and the <strong>Deposit<\/strong> reverses the same $100.00. The two cancel each other out, so the final impact on the books is <strong>$0.00<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If PayPal had instead resolved the dispute in the <strong>buyer&#8217;s favor<\/strong>, Synder would create a <strong>Refund Receipt<\/strong> for the disputed amount \u2014 in this example, $100.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to check that the dispute was synced correctly<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open Synder and locate the <strong>PayPal dispute transaction<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check the dispute <strong>status<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If the dispute is still <strong>Pending<\/strong>, wait until PayPal resolves the case.<\/li>\n<li>Once the dispute is resolved, <strong>sync<\/strong> the transaction in Synder.<\/li>\n<li>Open the synced result in your <strong>accounting platform<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If the <strong>seller won<\/strong>, confirm that Synder created an <strong>Expense<\/strong> and a <strong>Deposit<\/strong> for the same amount.<\/li>\n<li>If the <strong>buyer won<\/strong>, confirm that Synder created a <strong>Refund Receipt<\/strong> for the amount returned to the customer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Troubleshooting<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The dispute is still pending in Synder<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cause:<\/strong> PayPal has not resolved the case yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resolution:<\/strong> wait until PayPal finishes its review, then check the dispute in Synder again. Synder will sync the final entries automatically once the resolution is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The synced result does not match the dispute outcome<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> verify the final result directly in <strong>PayPal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> compare it to what Synder created:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Seller won<\/strong> \u2192 Synder should create an <strong>Expense<\/strong> and a <strong>Deposit<\/strong> for the same amount.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Buyer won<\/strong> \u2192 Synder should create a <strong>Refund Receipt<\/strong> for the refunded amount.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you see a different result in Synder, <strong>contact the Synder support team<\/strong> for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important notes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The final dispute entries use <strong>dates from the PayPal dispute activity<\/strong>, so they may appear on different dates than the original payment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Historical disputes<\/strong> from before Synder activation are <strong>not<\/strong> brought into your accounting records.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>original payment<\/strong> and the <strong>dispute<\/strong> are synced as <strong>separate transactions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about PayPal integrations or other Synder features, visit our <strong>Help Center<\/strong> or <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/contact\/\">reach out to the Synder team<\/a> via online support chat or email.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A PayPal dispute happens when a customer questions a payment and asks PayPal to review it.
