When you enable tax tracking, Synder adjusts how it creates entries on your accounting software.<span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\"> For each tax amount, Synder creates:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>Taxable Sales Amount line<\/strong> with the mapped tax code.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An <strong>Offsetting line<\/strong> with the zero-rated tax code.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This ensures that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taxable revenue is reported correctly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tax appears in the accounting platform tax reports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income or tax amount is not overstated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And gives you the ability to choose one of the following configurations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Option 1 \u2014 Tax tracking enabled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Option 2 \u2014 Tax tracking disabled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"option-1-tax-tracking-enabled-bd785f8f-023b-4faf-909c-b7220c56f6be\"><strong>Option 1: Tax Tracking Enabled<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this setup if you want tax to appear in Xero\u2019s built-in tax reports.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-1-enable-tax-codes-87a27b3d-943b-49a2-84a2-978daee0dbe7\"><strong>Step 1: Enable Tax Codes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move to <strong>Mapping<\/strong> tab.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down to <strong>Tax codes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enable tax codes<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assign a default <strong>zero-rated tax code<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Synder uses the default <strong>zero-rated tax code<\/strong> as a fallback zero-rated tax for non\u2013sales-tax-payable mapping lines. All other lines (shipping, discounts, etc.) will automatically use the selected zero-rated tax rate.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New summaries will reflect the tax codes. Rebuild the existing summaries to reflect the updated mapping. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/summary-sync-understanding-the-mapping-groups\/\">this guide<\/a> for step-by-step instructions on how to set up mapping groups.<br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>After enabling <strong>Group by region<\/strong>, you may encounter following regions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201c<strong>Unknown<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 Missing or unrecognized state\/country information. Use the manual groups feature to assign taxes to such mapping lines based on other available conditions in transactions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201c<strong>N\/A<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 No shipping address is available(e.g., for adjustments).<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Synder always calculates tax as exclusive and treats all amounts as net (before tax).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can map only Output (sales) tax rates. Xero Summary Sync does not support Input (purchase) tax rates.<br>Consider one of the following options:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Account for taxes on expenses manually. Synder records total fees in synced journal entries. Calculate tax separately based on the applicable percentage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the per-transaction synchronization mode to apply taxes to expenses\/fees. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/apply-tax-on-fees-or-expenses\/\">this guide<\/a> to understand how Synder handles taxes on fees in this sync mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"faq-df9401bc-c9ce-4153-bdc0-ce2eea670433\"><br><strong>FAQ<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>I don\u2019t see the desired tax code in the dropdown to choose. Why?<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><em>This can happen if the tax code is not set up in Xero. Create the tax code in Xero first. Then select it in Synder mapping.<\/em><em><br><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How does Synder calculate the taxable amount for a summary entry?<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><em>Synder uses this formula: <\/em><strong><em>Taxable sales amount = Tax amount \u00f7 Tax rate \u00d7 100.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>So if tax is $7.30 at 5%, the taxable amount becomes $146.00.<\/em><em><br><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Will tax rates be updated for historical summaries?<\/strong><br><em>Tax codes will only be applied to newly generated summaries after enabling the setting. Rebuild the existing summaries to reflect the updates. <\/em><em><br><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why don\u2019t my taxes appear in Xero tax reports?<\/strong><br><br><em>If Tax Tracking is disabled in Synder, no tax codes are applied to summary lines.
