Use <strong>Smart Rules<\/strong> when you need to apply classes based on different conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Synder you can <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/how-to-apply-quickbooks-classes-automatically\/\">apply classes to transactions<\/a>, to <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/how-to-assign-quickbooks-classes-on-product-lines\/\">product lines<\/a>, and to <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/apply-classes-to-expenses-automatically\/\">expenses<\/a> automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"locations-tracking-4af9441b-022b-4ef8-b1d7-bfc131575419\"><strong>Locations tracking<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Assign a default <strong>location<\/strong> for each platform in Synder settings. If you need more flexibility, use Smart Rules to <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/how-to-apply-locations-to-synced-transactions\/\">apply locations to synced transactions<\/a> based on other conditions. Both options are described in the linked guide \u2014 choose the one that fits your workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"income-categorization-inventory-tracking-88855645-50fe-43cc-a5e9-6619dccea0cc\"><strong>Income categorization and inventory tracking<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Income categorization depends on the linked item. If your <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/quickbooks-online-income-categorization-with-synder\/\">general Product\/Service settings<\/a> aren&#8217;t enough, use Smart Rules instead. Rules let you edit items, change <strong>income categories<\/strong>, and assign the correct item so your QuickBooks inventory stays up to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also update products based on <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/smart-rules-update-products-in-sales-receipts-based-on-metadata\/\">metadata<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/smart-rules-update-products-in-sales-receipts-based-on-description\/\">description<\/a>, and other fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"expensesfees-categorization-7c5a70b7-88fa-4cd6-8b9a-d5ec53dc2db6\"><strong>Expenses and fees categorization<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can have Synder <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/apply-categories-to-expenses-in-quickbooks\/\">apply categories to expenses automatically<\/a> based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zAR7BCnU93c\">description<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ko3sH6K2wjU\">vendor<\/a>, or other conditions. You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0t68zn2gsKk\">categorize processing and application fees<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tax-assignment-efca5372-bad0-4f54-aa55-56306f614df8\"><strong>Tax assignment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your <a href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/apply-taxes-to-any-sales-transaction-in-quickbooks\/\">general tax settings<\/a> aren&#8217;t enough, use Smart Rules to apply the right <strong>tax rate<\/strong> based on conditions you define. For example, all sales may be tax-inclusive, but gift cards should stay tax-exempt. As a result, income is categorized correctly across both systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-it-works-c020c352-49a5-41d4-a8a9-fe39acd13590\"><strong>How it works<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Synder tries to match automatically.<\/strong> Synder categorizes transactions based on the linked item details. When product names match exactly between your accounting system and the payment or e-commerce provider, the transaction goes to the correct <strong>Revenue account<\/strong> by default. With <strong>manual mapping groups<\/strong>, you can fine-tune how transactions are categorized in your books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-it-works-7e73c835-142d-4913-b5b9-1bdc6c9a7efa\"><strong>How it works<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Groups filter transaction data by conditions such as <strong>transaction type<\/strong>, <strong>accounting category<\/strong>, <strong>integration<\/strong>, <strong>description<\/strong>, <strong>memo<\/strong>, <strong>amount<\/strong>, and other available fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each transaction line is assigned to one group based on priority.
