This guide shows you how to assign QuickBooks classes on product lines using <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\" target=\"_blank\">Synder<\/a>. In short, you create and customize the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/how-rules-work-in-synder\/\" target=\"_blank\">Smart Rule<\/a> once \u2014 and then enjoy the results. For example, say you sell these different products in your payment gateway or e-commerce store:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2018Green Tea\u2019;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018Coffee\u2019;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018Cookies\u2019;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018Cakes\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, say you want to put \u2018Green Tea\u2019 and \u2018Coffee\u2019 under the Class \u2018Drinks\u2019 in QuickBooks, and \u2018Cookies\u2019 and \u2018Cakes\u2019 under the Class \u2018Food\u2019, so that Profit and Loss groups them properly. So keep reading to learn how to build the rule and automate the whole process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Rules work on the basis of \u2018if-then\u2019 conditions \u2013 so you can create flows and make Synder adapt to your needs. The process contains 2 phases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Synchronization of a transaction from the payment processor or e-commerce channel to your accounting system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Update of the created QuickBooks transaction based on the information inside of it, which happens almost instantly based on the conditions of the rule.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"background:#e8f5e9;border-left:4px solid #43a047;padding:12px 16px;margin-bottom:20px;\">\n<strong>Using Xero?<\/strong> Xero doesn\u2019t have Classes \u2014 the Xero equivalent is a <strong>Tracking Category<\/strong> (Xero allows up to two). Smart Rules apply them on the matching Xero entity \u2014 here, an <strong>Invoice<\/strong> line instead of a Sales Receipt line. The steps below are the same in principle. If class tracking is disabled, please, check out how to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/enable-classes-in-quickbooks-online\/\" target=\"_blank\">enable classes in QuickBooks<\/a>.<br>Once classes are enabled, please create a needed set of classes in your QuickBooks first, then you will be able to use them in Synder. Follow these steps to create classes in QuickBooks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to QuickBooks \u2018Settings\u2019 \u2699 and then \u2018All Lists\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u2018Classes\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u2018New\u2019. Give this class a name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u2018Save\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat steps 3 and 4 to create all the classes needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><h2 id=\"2\"><strong>Building a rule in Synder to classify items<\/strong><\/h2><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, let\u2019s create a rule in Synder to classify your sales.
