Even though you do not remit these taxes yourself, they still appear on your sales transactions and need proper recording in your books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Synder supports tax withheld processing for the following platforms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Amazon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>eBay<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Etsy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PayPal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TikTok<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Walmart<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shopify<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faire<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Synder offers two options for how to handle withheld taxes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Option 1: Record withheld tax separately (recommended)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Option 2: Track marketplace tax as your own payable<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"option-1-record-withheld-tax-separately-recommended-c4de0c46-ff68-4402-acca-c2f742958825\"><strong>Option 1: Record Withheld Tax Separately (Recommended)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This option prevents marketplace-collected tax from appearing as your liability. This means your tax reports reflect only the taxes you actually owe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"example-scenario-ddb9b6c8-b2e9-44e1-8527-81f2088d18b5\"><strong>Example Scenario<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider a <strong>$100 sale<\/strong> with <strong>$10 tax<\/strong> (10%) and a <strong>$3 Amazon fee<\/strong>. Choose this approach if your accountant prefers to see all taxes \u2014 including marketplace-remitted ones \u2014 in your Sales Tax Payable account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"configuration-steps-c61dfe2a-6bcf-4aca-b091-609ab5c4f0ea\"><strong>Configuration Steps<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select your integration (for example, Amazon or Shopify).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the <strong>Taxes<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Marketplace Facilitator Tax Category<\/strong>, choose the account you want Synder to use for tracking marketplace tax withholding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn <strong>ON<\/strong> the <strong>&#8220;Track Marketplace Facilitator Tax as your own payable&#8221;<\/strong> toggle.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"388\" src=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-2-1024x388.png\" alt=\"Synder Taxes settings with the Track Marketplace Facilitator Tax as your own payable toggle enabled\" class=\"wp-image-26998\" srcset=\"https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-2-1024x388.png 1024w, https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-2-300x114.png 300w, https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-2-768x291.png 768w, https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-2-1080x410.png 1080w, https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-2-60x23.png 60w, https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-2-150x57.png 150w, https:\/\/synder.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-2.png 1521w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With this setting enabled, Synder records withheld taxes as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Synder records the tax in the <strong>tax field of the sale<\/strong> with an assigned tax code.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The amount goes into the <strong>Sales Tax Payable<\/strong> account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The tax appears in <strong>tax reports<\/strong> and affects your liability balance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Synder creates an <strong>expense line<\/strong> to offset the tax amount and records it in the Marketplace Facilitator Tax Payable account you selected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keep in mind:<\/strong> Your reports will still show this tax as payable, even though the marketplace already remitted it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"important-notes-f1c2ade9-2047-4c97-92fa-ebd0a2a30ffe\"><strong>Important Notes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Shopify-specific behavior:<\/strong> For taxes that Shopify withholds, Synder adds a <strong>Marketplace Facilitator Tax<\/strong> line to the sale. If multiple taxes apply to the order, Synder consolidates them into a single line item and lists the individual tax types in the description field. Additionally, Synder automatically creates a <strong>Sales Tax Adjustment<\/strong> transaction to offset the tax amount.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To ensure Synder records Shopify taxes as line items, keep the &#8220;Track Marketplace Tax as your own payable&#8221; setting <strong>disabled<\/strong>. Synder disables this by default for Shopify integrations. However, you can enable it if you prefer to treat those taxes as your own liability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>QuickBooks Online limitation:<\/strong> You <strong>cannot<\/strong> use the default <strong>Sales Tax Payable<\/strong> account in expense lines in QuickBooks Online. To work around this:This approach allows proper offsetting in your reports.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a <strong>sub-account under Sales Tax Payable<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use this sub-account in Synder settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some marketplaces may also remit the <strong>Colorado Retail Delivery Fee<\/strong> on behalf of the seller. In those cases, Synder treats the fee similarly to other marketplace-remitted taxes. To exclude marketplace-remitted tax from your liability, <\/em><strong><em>disable<\/em><\/strong><em> this option.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Which account should I select for Marketplace Facilitator Tax?<\/strong><br><br><em>Use a dedicated account. The recommended approach is to create a sub-account under Sales Tax Payable.
